OTTAWA, Kan. - The Ottawa University beach volleyball team continued its early-season schedule on Thursday, dropping a 5-0 decision to Park University. Despite the final score, the Braves showed fight throughout the lineup, including a three-set battle at the No. 3 position.
Park claimed the opening point at No. 1 as Izabella Ceratti and Jullia Alvarez defeated Ottawa's
Carson Schuman and
Hollie Peters in straight sets, 21-12, 21-19. The Braves pushed back late in the second set but were unable to complete the comeback.
At the No. 2 position,
Madison Brauner and
Bailee Nickel faced Aly Anderson and Grecia Ung. Park secured the point with a 21-10, 21-14 victory.
Ottawa's closest match came at No. 3.
Brenna Diller and
Brittan Lee opened strong, taking the first set 21-18 against Daniela Gomez and Luna Martins. Park responded with a dominant second set and held on in the third to win the match 18-21, 21-5, 15-8.
Park added two more points to close out the dual. At No. 4,
Samantha Young and
Janessa Ross battled but fell 21-10, 21-18 to Angie Rodriguez and Indi Zetic.
Ina Grbic and
Tessa Mathews competed at No. 5, dropping a 21-16, 21-10 decision to Maria Pim and Abi Williams.
In the exhibition match, Park's Julia Matos and Serena Arruda defeated
Nakhai Biby and
Jaedin Brady, 21-15, 21-5.
