MCPHERSON, Kan. - Ottawa battled all day at Bulldog Park, showing resilience in a tough Game 1 loss before responding with a composed and efficient win in Game 2 to earn a split with McPherson on Saturday.
Game 1: Ottawa 8, McPherson 9
Ottawa showed grit throughout, erasing a six-run deficit and tying the game late, but McPherson walked it off in the bottom of the ninth.
McPherson jumped out early with two runs in the first and added four more in the third, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to build a 6-0 lead.
The Braves responded in a big way in the fourth. An RBI double by Jeremy Freeman got Ottawa on the board, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Garrett Dodd and a two-run home run by
Dane Lujan to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Ottawa continued the comeback in the sixth inning. Dodd delivered again with a two-run homer to tie the game, and Lujan followed with his second home run of the day to give Ottawa a 7-6 lead.
After McPherson regained the lead in the eighth,
Owen Powers answered in the ninth with a clutch solo home run to even the score at 8-8.
However, McPherson responded in the bottom half with a walk-off solo home run, handing Ottawa a tough 9-8 loss.
Game 2: Ottawa 5, McPherson 3
The Braves bounced back with a strong all-around performance in Game 2, using timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the split.
Ottawa struck early in the second inning, capitalizing on pressure and aggressive base running.
Owen Powers drove in the first run, and the Braves added three more—two coming off a McPherson error and an RBI ground out by
Branden Franz—to take a 4-0 lead.
McPherson chipped away with a run in the third and a two-run homer in the fourth, but Ottawa never lost control.
In the seventh, the Braves added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by
Julius Ryan, extending the lead to 5-3.
On the mound,
Adrian Quintana delivered a complete game performance, allowing just three runs while striking out six to earn the win and shut down any late rally attempts.
