OTTAWA, Kan. — The (RV) Ottawa Braves rallied late to win in game one before rolling to a dominant victory in game two to complete the sweep over York University at Alumni Park.
Game 1: Ottawa 9, York 7
Ottawa jumped out early and then delivered when it mattered most, answering a late York surge with a clutch eighth inning to secure the win.
The Braves struck first in the opening inning as
Jose Vega delivered an RBI single to make it 1-0. Ottawa added to the lead in the third inning with Jeremy Freeman driving in a run before aggressive base running led to another score, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Ottawa continued to build momentum in the fifth inning.
Garrett Dodd came through with a two-RBI double, extending the lead to 5-0. The Braves added another run in the seventh to take a 6-0 advantage into the late innings.
York responded in a big way in the eighth, scoring seven runs to take a 7-6 lead, capitalizing on walks and timely hits.
But Ottawa answered immediately.
In the bottom of the eighth,
Dylan Snead tied the game with an RBI single before
Alejandro Paz delivered the knockout blow — a two-RBI double to right center that gave Ottawa a 9-7 lead they would not relinquish.
On the mound,
Adrian Quintana dominated for much of the game, allowing just one hit through 7.1 innings before York's late rally. The bullpen regrouped, with
Tim Burke earning the win and
Ben Hewitt closing the door.
Game 2: Ottawa 12, York 0
The Braves wasted no time asserting control in game two, using a big second and third inning to put the game out of reach early.
Ottawa plated three runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI contributions from
Garrett Dodd and
Owen Powers. The Braves then exploded for five runs in the third inning, capped by a three-run home run from Dodd to make it 8-0.
The offense kept rolling in the sixth inning, adding four more runs behind RBI hits from
Dylan Snead and a two-run triple from
Jose Vega to push the lead to 12-0.
