Biography

Entering his senior season, Perez has an overall record of 108-26, is the first OU men’s wrestler to record over 100 victories, has a dual mark of 37-5, and has 60 falls (52-8-60). He is tied for eighth in the OU record book in wins in the 165 pound weight class (7), seventh in wins in the 174 pound weight class (7), first in wins in the 184 pound weight class (92), first in career victories (108), first in career win-loss percentage (.805), first in career falls (60), first in career dual victories (31), and is second in career dual win-loss percentage (.880).

2023-24: Perez became the first three-time NAIA All-American in program history with his third place finish in the 184 pound weight class at the NAIA National Championships. He was the KCAC Champion at 184 pounds, earning All-KCAC honors. Perez competed both in the 184 pound weight class (20-2) and the 197 pound weight class (5-0). He had an overall record of 25-2, a dual mark of 11-1, and 15 falls. Perez is tied for ninth in the OU record book in single season wins (25), first in single season winning percentage (.925), sixth in single season falls (15), second in wins by a junior (25), and third in single season wins at 184 pounds (25).

2022-23: In his redshirt sophomore season, Perez earned NAIA All-American honors with his sixth place finish in the 184 pound weight class. He earned All-KCAC honors in the 184 pound weight class. Perez finished the season with a record of 34-9, a dual mark of 13-1, and had 18 falls and two technical falls. He is ranked second in the OU record book in single season victories (34), ninth in single season winning percentage (.790), first in wins by a sophomore (34), second in single season wins in the 184 pound weight class (32), tied for first in season falls (20), and is first in single season dual winning percentage (.928).

2021-22: As a redshirt freshman, Perez finished the season with a record of 35-9, a mark of 14-3 in duals, and 18 falls and two technical falls. He was a NAIA National Tournament qualifier, finishing fifth and earning NAIA All-American honors. Perez was a KCAC Champion in the 184 pound weight class, earning All-KCAC honors. He is ranked first in the OU record book in single season wins (35), sixth in single season winning percentage (.795), first in single season wins by a freshman (35), first in single season wins by weight in 184 pounds (35), tied for first in single season falls (20), and fourth in single season dual winning percentage (.823).

2020-21: Perez finished his freshman season with an overall record of 14-6. He had six falls and two technical falls and a record of 5-1 in duals. Perez was a NAIA National Tournament qualifier at 174 pounds and earned All-KCAC honors. He is tied for eighth in the OU record book in single season wins by weight in the 165 pound weight class (7) and eighth in the 174 pound weight class (7).

High School: Perez lettered four letters in wrestling at Deming High School. As a senior, Perez finished with a 43-0 record and won the New Mexico Men’s Wrestling 160lb State Championship. He made four New Mexico State Wrestling Tournament appearances and was a three-time state finalist. Perez was named the 2019-20 New Mexico 5A Wrestler of the Year. He was a four-time All-State selection, was named to the 2020 Dream Team, and earned All-District honors four times. Perez also excelled in the classroom at Deming High School.
