Braves Play Host to Park on Thursday

Ottawa defeated Haskell Indian Nations University 87-68 on Tuesday night at the Coffin Sports Complex. OU shot 51.7 percent from the floor, 61.5 percent in the second half. The Braves shot 45.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 82.4 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves had four players in double figures in the win over HINU, led by Maria Moore's double-double. She had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Ahoneste Walker and Cierra Brown finished the game with 15 points apiece and Nicole Brown scored 10. Walker led the Braves with four assists. Jayla Johnson finished with four steals.

 Nicole Brown leads the Braves in scoring (14.5) and rebounding (12). She is shooting 58.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. Brown and Janiyah Hendricks lead OU in assists per game (2.0) and Jayla Johnson is the team's leader in steals per game (1.5).

Through four games this season, Ottawa is shooting 49.4 percent from the floor, 38.5 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 78 percent from the free throw line. OU is averaging 79.5 points, 48 rebounds and 15 assists per game.

OU is ranked 23rd in the NAIA in points (318), 42nd in points per game (79.5), 27th in field goals made per game (30.3), 17th in field goal percentage (.494), 23rd in 3-pt field goal percentage (.385), 20th in free throw percentage (.780), fifth in defensive rebounds per game (35.8), 28th in total rebounds per game (48), 25th in rebound margin per game (14), 19th in personal fouls per game (13.5), and 35th in opponents field goal percentage (.322).

Thursday is the 27th meeting between Ottawa University and Park University. OU leads the all-time series, 15-11, and are 3-2 in its last five games against the Pirates. Park won the last meeting on Oct. 31, 2020 in Parkville, 77-66. The first meeting took place on Nov. 16, 1979 in Wilson Field House. OU won the game 63-25. The Braves are 12-2 all-time against the Pirates in Wilson Field House.

Park University is 1-1 to open the 2022-23 season. The Pirates defeated Haskell Indian Nations University 58-51 on Nov. 1 in Lawrence and then lost 66-65 to Doane University on Nov. 5 in Parkville.

In the loss to Doane, Park had a 53-49 lead over the Tigers headed in the fourth quarter. Doane outscored Park 17-12 to take the 66-65 victory. Park shot 36.1 percent from the floor, 20.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. Park was 16-for-21 from the free throw line while Doane was 23-for-30.

Angel Wiggins came off the bench in the loss to lead the team in scoring with 14 points. Donetria Mcgee was the other Pirate in double figures, finishing with 11 points.

Donetria Mcgee leads Park in scoring (15.5), Makayla Artis is the team's leader in rebounding (7.5), Taylor Shelby and Mcgee lead Park in assists (3) per game, and Mcgee is the team's leader in steals (3) per game.

In their first two games of the season, Park is shooting 37 percent from the floor, 23.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 68.4 percent from the free throw line. The Pirates are averaging 61.5 points, 46 rebounds, and 11.5 assists per game.

The Pirates are ranked 22nd in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (33.5), 41st in total rebounds per game (46), 32nd in rebound margin per game (12.5), 17th in opponents field goal percentage (.295), and 11th in opponents 3-pt field goal percentage (.149).
