Box Score OTTAWA, Kan. – The (12) Ottawa University baseball team opened its three game series with Kansas Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon at Alumni Park with OU taking the 5-3 victory.
KWU struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the top of the first inning. Ottawa answered in its bottom half of the inning.
Jonah Weisner led off the inning with a double to right.
Holland Boan scored him with a single to left, tying the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the third,
Zachary Spradlin gave OU the lead with a leadoff home run, 2-1. The Coyotes retook the lead in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of a couple of Brave miscues to score two runs in the inning to take the 3-2 lead.
The Braves were able to get one of those runs back in the bottom of the seventh. Weisner led the Braves off with a single up the middle.
Tyler Farnham singled to right on a hit and run, moving Weisner to third. Boan hit into a double play but Weisner scored from third to tie the game, 3-3.
Ottawa quieted the KWU bats in the top of the eighth and retook the lead in its next at bat.
Carson Johnson walked and then scored on
Luis DeLeon's double to center, giving OU a 4-3 lead.
Logan Zozaya followed that hit by DeLeon with a double of his own. That hit scored
Zach Henry, who was pinch running for DeLeon, and Ottawa led 5-3.
In the top of the ninth, Kansas Wesleyan had a runner reach first with a single. After a strike out,
Stephen Norrell was able to get the double play to end the game and the Braves took the 5-3 victory.

- Stephen Norrell struck out 12 in the complete game victory. He only allowed six hits. After giving up two hits in the first inning, Norrell didn't allow a hit for five straight innings.
