BSB: #17 Braves and Avila Meet at Alumni Park on Tuesday

Ottawa moved its record to 31-5 overall and is in first place in the KCAC with a record of 19-3 with a three game sweep of Southwestern College last weekend at Alumni Park. The Braves hit .348 in the series, scoring 31 runs, hitting seven doubles, and five home runs. OU had 29 RBI, a .596 slugging percentage, 16 walks, six hit by pitch, a .469 on base percentage, and 19 stolen bases. The OU pitching staff had a 1.57 ERA with 34 strike outs in 23 innings. Southwestern had a .205 batting average against the Braves.

OU has hit the 30 win mark for just the fifth time, second time under head coach Gabe Grinder, in program history.

Holland Boan earned his third KCAC Player of the Week honor for his efforts in OU's games against the University of Saint Mary and Southwestern last week. Boan hit .778 (7-for-9), scored eight runs, hit one double, three home runs, drove in seven, had a 1.889 slugging percentage, was walked six times, hit by a pitch twice, had a .833 on base percentage, hit a sacrifice fly, and stole three bases in four games last week.

Through 36 games, the Braves have scored 325 runs and hit 58 home runs. OU has a .328 batting average, a .437 on base percentage, and a .571 slugging percentage.

Ottawa's 325 runs is ranked fourth all-time in the OU record book in single season runs scored. The school record is 428 scored in 2017. The Braves 58 home runs is ranked second in the OU record book in single season home runs. The school record is 71 that was set last season.

Ottawa has won eight straight games and is 13-2 in its last 15 games. During that stretch, OU is outscoring opponents 125-47.

Holland Boan leads the Braves in batting average (.469) and RBI (51). Tyler Bryant is OU's leader in ERA (1.67) and Hector Sepulveda is Ottawa's leader in strike outs (86).

OU has a record of 18-31-1 against Avila University and has won six straight games against the Eagles. Ottawa has won two straight at Alumni Park against Avila. The last time OU lost to Avila was on Feb. 26, 2019 in Kansas City, Mo. Avila took the game, 7-5. The Braves have not lost at home to Avila since March 9, 2016. Avila won that game, 8-3.

Ottawa has taken the series for the second straight season from Avila, winning the first two meetings. Ottawa defeated the Eagles 15-8 on March 1 in Ottawa and 12-2 in eight innings on March 22 in Kansas City, Mo. Ottawa has outscored Avila 27-10, is hitting .410, has a .slugging percentage, and a .478 on base percentage against the Eagles this season.

Avila University is 16-19 overall and is in ninth place in the KCAC with a record of 7-15. The Eagles took the series last weekend against Kansas Wesleyan, 2-1, in Salina. AU won game one 7-4, fell in game two 11-4, but rebounded to take game three, 7-4. Avila is 4-3 in its last seven games. This includes a win over, then no. 19, McPherson College 3-0 on April 3. Avila is 3-8 on the road this season.

Through 35 games, Avila has scored 187 runs and hit 19 home runs. The Eagles have a .247 batting average, a .375 on base percentage, and a .360 slugging percentage.

Reyes Willis leads Avila in batting average (.312), Isaiah Alvarez and Paxton Andrade leads the Eagles in RBI (24), Jarrett Dotson is the team's leader in ERA (3.54), and Keaton Ashby leads AU in strike outs (34).
