#12 Braves End Their Season With a Loss to Reinhardt, 7-4

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Ottawa University baseball team's season ended in an elimination game against Reinhardt University on Wednesday afternoon at Harrison Field, 7-4.

Ottawa struck first in the top of the second inning. Nicholas Sizemore hit a single up the middle, bringing Brad Grant as a courtesy runner for the catcher. Gabe Eckstaine doubled to left-center, scoring Grant and OU led 1-0.

The Eagles took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Reinhardt then scored three in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead to 5-1. The Braves cut into the RU lead with a run in the top of the sixth.

Holland Boan singled to left and then moved to second with a single to right by Carson Johnson. Connor Jeffers reached first with a bunt single, loading the bases. Nicholas Sizemore scored Boan with a sacrifice fly to right and the Braves were within 5-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Reinhardt scored two more runs to increase its lead to 7-2 over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the Eagle lead once more in the top of the seventh. Tyler Farnham reached first with a single to left. Boan connected on his 28th home run of the season and Ottawa was down 7-4.

The Braves were able to get a runner on base in the eighth and ninth innings but were not able to score as Reinhardt took the 7-4 victory.

  • Connor Jeffers and Jonah Weisner had two hits apiece.

Ottawa finishes the season with a record of 43-10, a KCAC Championship, and an NAIA Opening Round appearance. The Braves set 10 team school records this past season and earned the program's first no. 1 seed in an NAIA Opening Round.
