Braves Split with Saint Ambrose

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team spilt the final two games of its series with Saint Ambrose University on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves won the first game of the day, 8-2 but fell 7-6 in game two.

Game Three
The Fighting Bees struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the top of the first inning. Ottawa answered with two runs in their bottom half of the inning.

Tyler Farnham reached first after being hit by a pitch. A single to left by Pedro Astacio advanced Farnham to second. A wild pitch moved Farnham 90 feet from home Astacio to second. Cole Broughton scored Farnham with a ground out to second, tying the game 1-1. A single to center by Lukas Rich brought Astacio home, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Ottawa increased its lead over SAU with three runs in the bottom of the second. Luis DeLeon led off the inning with a home run to center and OU led 3-1. Brent Swearingen followed that with a double to right. Zachary Spradlin bunted safely to first, moving Swearingen to third. Jonah Weisner scored Swearingen with a ground out to second, increasing the OU lead to 4-1. Spradlin scored the final run of the inning for the Braves. He crossed home plate on a ground out to third by Farnham and OU led 5-1.

The Fighting Bees scored one run in the top of the fifth, cutting OU's lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the sixth Ottawa pushed three more runs across home plate to take the 8-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Four
Ottawa took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jonah Weisner walked and then swiped second. Tyler Farnham doubled to center, scoring Weisner to give OU a 1-0 lead. Lukas Rich grounded out to second, moving Farnham to third. Cole Broughton scored Farnham with a sacrifice fly to right and OU led 2-0.

Saint Ambrose tied the game with two runs in the top of the third and then pushed two more runs across home plate in the top of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.

The Braves answered that with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Liam Vulcano singled and then moved to second on an error by the right fielder. Weisner walked and OU head runners on first and second. Farnham followed that walk with a tripled to right, scoring Vulcano and Weisner to tie the game at four all.

In the top of the fifth, the Fighting Bees scored two runs to retake the lead 6-4. SAU increased its lead with a run in the top of the seventh, 7-4.

The Braves attempted to rally in its bottom half of the seventh. Weisner singled to right and Farnham followed that with a double to left. Rich grounded out to first, scoring Weisner and OU was within 7-5. Broughton singled to center, scoring Farnham and Ottawa was down 7-6. The Braves were not able to complete the comeback, however and SAU took the 7-6 victory.
