The Braves got back on the winning track with a three game sweep of Sterling College last weekend at Alumni Park. Ottawa finished the series with a .364 batting average (28-77), scored 24 runs, hit four doubles and four home runs, drove in 18 runs, had a .571 slugging percentage, walked 18 times, was hit by a pitch seven times, had a .510 on base percentage, and was 9-for-16 in stolen base attempts. The OU pitching staff had a 0.86 ERA, striking out 25 in 21 innings. The Warriors had a .151 batting average against the Brave pitchers.
Because of his efforts in OU's 8-1 win over Sterling in game one last Friday,
Tyler Bryant was named KCAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Bryant had a 1.00 ERA in nine innings, striking out eight and only allowing five hits. Sterling had a .161 batting average against him.
Ottawa is 14-1 at Alumni Park this season and have won 11 straight home games. In OU's 15 home games, the Braves are hitting .336, have scored 118 runs, have hit 17 home runs, 21 doubles, and six triples, have driven in 100 runs, have walked 61 times, stole 41 bases, have a .444 on base percentage, and a .551 slugging percentage.
Through 24 games this season, Ottawa has a .307 batting percentage, a .404 on base percentage, and a .510 slugging percentage. The Braves have hit 26 home runs and scored 165 runs.
Brandon Kelley leads the Braves in batting average (.438),
Cole Broughton is OU's leader in RBI (31), and
Tyler Bryant leads OU in ERA (3.35) and strike outs (47).
Ottawa leads the series with the University of Saint Mary, 40-39, and the Braves are on a six game wining streak against the Spires. OU defeated last season 23-5, 16-1, and 11-4. The first time the two teams met was on March 16, 2002 at Alumni Park. Ottawa won the game, 10-0. The Braves have won three straight home games against the Spires. The last time OU lost to USM at home was on March 23, 2019. Saint Mary won the game, 7-2.
The University of Saint Mary is 8-12 overall, 2-5 in the KCAC, have lost three straight, and are 2-5 on the road this season. The Spires lost its three game series against no. 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan University 7-1, 13-3, and 17-2 last weekend in Bartlesville, Okla. Prior to those three losses, USM had won three straight with wins over Sterling (5-4), Avila (6-4), and Benedictine College (13-8).
Through 20 games, the Spires have a .263 batting average, a .377 on base percentage, and a .345 slugging percentage. USM has hit three home runs and scored 103 runs.
Caleb McClellan leads the team in batting average (.366) and Jordan McClellan and Bryce Turner lead Saint Mary in RBI (13). Jacob Castaneda leads USM in ERA (4.76) and strike outs (20).
