Baseball Splits With #11 Oklahoma Wesleyan

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Ottawa University baseball team split with no. 11 Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon. OU rallied to take game one, 4-3, but fell in game two, 12-1.

Game One
Oklahoma Wesleyan broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning with two runs. The Braves cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jonah Weisner singled to center and then moved to second on a walk by Tyler Farnham. Brandon Kelley doubled to right, scoring Weisner and the Braves were within 2-1.

The Eagles scored one run in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 3-1. Ottawa rallied in the bottom of the eighth.

Cole Broughton doubled to left and Luis DeLeon walked, giving OU runners and first and second. Nicholas Sizemore grounded out but moved Broughton to third and DeLeon to second.

Pedro Astacio singled to right, scoring Broughton and moving DeLeon to third. An error by the OKWU third baseman scored DeLeon and OU tied the game, 3-3. Liam Vulcano's double to right-center scored Astacio and OU had a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Eric Reece entered for the save. The first batter walked, Reece struck out the second, the third batter reached on an error, the fourth flied out, the fifth was hit by a pitch, and the sixth reached on the a fielders choice as OU got the final out to take the 4-3 victory.

Oklahoma Wesleyan scored nine runs in the first three innings of the game. Ottawa was not able to rally and the Eagles took the 12-1 victory.

  • Cole Broughton went 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Luis DeLeon made his first pitching appearance of the season. He pitched three innings, striking out three and only allowed two hits.
