WINFIELD, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team took two games from Southwestern College on Saturday afternoon. OU won game one in seven innings, 12-2, and took game two, 13-8. The game one win was the Braves' 30
th win of the year. It is the program's sixth time of winning 30 or more games in a season and the third straight season that Ottawa has won 30 games in a year.
Game One
Ottawa jumped out to the early lead in the top of the first inning.
Cole Broughton walked and then moved to second on a ground out by
Zachary Spradlin.
Jonah Weisner walked, giving OU runners on first and second.
Pedro Astacio singled to third, loading the bases.
Lukas Rich gave OU the 1-0 lead with a single to left, scoring Broughton. A wild throw by the Moundbuilder left fielder scored Weisner and Ottawa had a 2-0 lead.
Gabe Eckstaine's single up the middle scored both Rich and Astacio, increasing the Brave lead to 4-0. Ottawa scored one more run in the inning.
Liam Vulcano's single to center scored Eckstaine, giving the Braves a 5-0 lead.
Southwestern cut into the Brave lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning, 5-1. Ottawa earned that run back in the top of the fourth with a home run by Broughton, 6-1.
Ottawa scored two more runs in the top of the fifth.
Lukas Rich hit a home run to give the Braves a 7-1 lead. The Braves scored one more run in the inning. Eckstaine crossed home plate on a balk by the Moundbuilder pitcher and the Braves had an 8-1 lead.
The Braves increased their lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Zachary Spradlin reached first on a throwing error by the Moundbuilder short stop and Weisner walked to give OU two runners on base. Astacio doubled to right, scoring both Spradlin and Weisner and Ottawa had a 10-1 lead.
OU pushed two more runs across home plate in the top of the seventh.
Tyler Farnham singled to left and advanced to second on a ground out by Broughton. Spradlin's infield single moved Farnham to third and Weisner was hit by a pitch to load the bases. An error by the Southwestern short stop scored both Spradlin and Farnham and Ottawa had a 12-1 lead.
Southwestern scored one run in the bottom of the seventh but was not able to extend the game as the Braves took the 12-2 victory.

Game Two
Ottawa scored first to take the lead in the top of the first inning.
Cole Broughton walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Zachary Spradlin reached first on an error by the SWC third baseman, moving Broughton to third.
Jonah Weisner's single to right scored Broughton to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. An error by the Moundbuilder right fielder scored Spradlin and the Braves had a 2-0 lead.
Lukas Rich scored Weisner with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Ottawa a 3-0 lead.
Southwestern cut into OU's lead with a run in the bottom of the first, 3-1. The Braves earned that one back in the top of the second.
Tyler Farnham singled to right and then stole second to give OU a runner in scoring position. Spradlin was hit by a pitch and Weisner walked, loading the bases for the Braves. A wild pitch scored Farnham and OU led 4-1.
In the top of the third, Ottawa pushed two more runs across home plate.
Gabe Eckstaine led off the inning for OU with a home run to give the Braves a 5-1 lead. With two outs, Farnham tripled down the right field line.
Cole Broughton scored Farnham with a single down the left field line and the Braves had a 6-1 lead.
The Moundbuilders cut into OU's lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, 6-3. The Braves scored another run in the top of the fourth to extend their lead. Weisner walked and them moved to second on a single to center by
Pedro Astacio.
Gabe Eckstaine singled to left, scoring Weisner to give the Braves a 7-3 lead.
Southwestern rallied in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to tie the game at seven all. Ottawa answered in the top of the fifth. The Braves scored five runs on four hits, two of those hits were home runs by Farnham and
Lukas Rich, to retake the lead, 12-7.
SWC scored one run in the top of the fifth to cut the Brave lead to 12-8. The Braves pushed one more run across home plate in the top of the sixth. Broughton hit OU's fifth home run of the game to give Ottawa a 13-8 lead.
Only one Moundbuilder reached base in its final two at bats and the Braves took the 13-8 victory.
