WICHITA, Kan. -- The Ottawa University men's track and field team demonstrated exceptional performances at the KT Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State, showcasing their skills and talent on the track. Overall, there was one school record and five personal records broken at the meet.
In the men's 100 meters event,
Jaylan Washington (JR-3) sprinted to an outstanding time of 10.41 seconds, earning him a 5th place finish with NAIA A qualifying marks.
Jahkoby Franklin (SO-2) also delivered a solid performance with a personal record time of 11.03 seconds, securing 39th place.
Cameron Jackson (JR-3) and Santino Gee (JR-3) also represented Ottawa University well, finishing with times of 11.19 seconds and 11.47 seconds, respectively.
Moving on to the men's 200 meters event, Washington continued his impressive form, finishing with another personal record time of 21.14 seconds and securing an impressive 2nd place finish with NAIA A and NAIA B qualifying marks.
Jahkoby Franklin also showcased his speed with a time of 22.77 seconds, earning him a place at 49th.
In the men's 400 meters event, Gage Keaton showed his determination with a personal best time of 52.72 seconds, earning him a commendable finish at 64th.
Christopher Rosas also represented Ottawa University in the event, finishing with a time of 1:10.75.
In the men's 110 hurdles,
Kayron Johnson finished with a time of 14.94 seconds, securing a place at 10th with a strong performance. In the men's 400 hurdles, Johnson once again excelled with a time of 54.99 seconds, earning him a top-10 finish at 9th place and claiming the OU program record in the event.
The Ottawa University men's relay teams also put on an impressive show. In the men's 4 x 100 relay, the team consisting of
Jaylan Washington,
Cameron Jackson,
Jahkoby Franklin, and Santino Gee finished with a time of 42.63 seconds, securing 8th place. In the men's 4 x 400 relay, the team comprising of Gage Keaton,
Cameron Jackson, Santino Gee, and
Kayron Johnson finished with a time of 3:26.54, earning them a respectable 12th place finish.
In the men's high jump event,
Hadyn Bieling demonstrated his athleticism with a mark of 2.01m (6' 7"), earning him a 7th place finish. Bryan Cooper and Ismael Fadiga also participated in the event, showcasing their potential.
In the men's long jump, junior Mario Cheatem showcased his skills with a leap of 6.49m (21' 3.5"), earning him 14th place overall. Cheatem's performance was particularly notable as he faced challenging wind conditions with a wind reading of 2.5. Cheatem's consistent performance with marks of 6.49m (2.5), 6.46m (1.6), and 6.43m (3.8) demonstrated his skill and determination in adverse conditions.
In the men's triple jump, Ottawa had multiple athletes excel. Cheatem continued to impress, finishing in 8th place overall with a mark of 13.42m (44' 0.5") despite facing a wind of 3.0. Freshman Bryan Cooper also showed promise with a mark of 12.38m (40' 7.5") in 16th place, and fellow freshman Corey Brown followed closely behind with a mark of 12.33m (40' 5.5") in 17th place.
In the javelin event, sophomore
Jacob Ludwick had a stellar performance, finishing in 4th place overall with a mark of 57.45m (188' 6"). Ludwick's performance was particularly noteworthy as he achieved the NAIA A standard with consistent throws of 50.96m, 53.29m, 54.88m, 53.88m, 56.39m, and 57.45m
