Football is Defeated by McPherson, 60-17

OTTAWA, Kan. -  The Ottawa University football team fell 60-17 to McPherson College on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.

McPherson scored the first two touchdowns of the game to take a 13-0 lead over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the McPherson lead with 12:18 left in the second quarter. Rhett Andersen connected on a 30 yard field goal to put OU within 13-3.

The Bulldogs increased their lead over OU at the 7:51 mark in the second quarter, taking a 20-3 lead. A little more than two minutes later, Ottawa answered with a six yard touchdown run by Wynton Ruth. Andersen's extra point kick was good and the Braves were within 20-10.

MC scored two more touchdowns in the final minutes of the first half, taking a 33-10 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, McPherson continued its scoring ways, scoring the next 21 points  to take a 54-10 lead over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the Bulldog lead  with a 91 yard kick off return for a touchdown by DeAnthony Curtis. That return ties him for 10th in the OU record book for longest kickoff return in a game. Andersen's extra point kick was true and the Braves were down 54-17.

McPherson scored one more touchdown in the game, taking the 60-17 victory.

  • Ottawa had 279 yards of offense, 103 yards passing and 176 yards rushing. McPherson finished the game with a total of 483 yards of offense, 297 yards through the air and 186 yards on the ground.

  • Jayden Johnson led OU with three receptions. Anterrio White and De'Anthony Curtis had two receptions apiece.
