OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated Midland University 45-12 on Saturday morning at AdventHealth Field.
Ottawa received the ball to start the game and quickly took the early lead.
Madysen Carrera's 25 yard touchdown pass to
Jazlyn Camacho capped off a six play, 66 yard drive. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and OU led 7-0.
The Brave defense forced a Warrior punt and the offense took over on its own 27 yard line. Eight plays later the Braves were in the endzone. Carrera threw a four yard touchdown pass to
Alyssa Linkous, giving OU a 13-0 lead with 26 seconds left in the first quarter.
Another punt by the Warriors gave the Braves the ball on their own 27 yards line with 9:05 left in the half. OU put together another scoring drive, this one three plays and 53 yards, that ended in a Carrera to Linkous touchdown. The two point conversion was no good and with 7:49 remaining in the second quarter, OU led 19-0.
OU's defense forced a third Midland punt and Ottawa had the ball on its own 34 yard line. Two plays later the Braves found pay dirt. Carrera threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Camacho and OU had a 25-0 lead with 2:06 on the clock.
Three plays into the Warriors' fourth offensive possession of the game, the OU defense recorded the takeaway.
Abby Brown intercepted A. Ioane Kaio's pass and the OU offense took over on the MU 16 yard line with one minute left in the half.
The OU offense took advantage of the good field position and Carrera scrambled seven yards for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and OU took a 32-0 lead into the locker room.
Midland received the ball to start the third quarter. The Warriors put together their best drive of the game, moving into Ottawa territory. That is all the farther Midland would get as the OU defense recorded another takeaway.
Faron Malouff intercepted the pass in the endzone and the Braves had the ball on its own 14 yard line.
The Braves continued with their scoring ways and put together a five play, 66 yard scoring drive. Carrera connected with
Cynthia Homs for the 30 yard touchdown. The extra point was good and the Braves led 39-0 with 2:09 left in the third quarter.
The Warriors put together their first scoring drive of the season. A six play, 39 yard drive that cut into the Brave lead and with 11:53 left in the game, Ottawa led 39-6.
The Braves were forced to punt on their next offensive possession of the game and Midland took over on its own 31 yard line. The Warriors scored for the second time, putting together a five play, 49 yard drive that ended in a touchdown. The extra point was no good and OU led 39-12 with 56 seconds left in the game.
Ottawa answered Midland's score with one of its own. This score took 36 seconds, 10 plays, and 66 yards. Carrera threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to
Marley Spielberg and the Braves led 45-12 with 24 seconds left.
The OU defense forced another Warrior turnover two plays later. Dejonice Parrice recorded OU's third interception of the game and the Braves took the 45-12 victory.
