Zack Melendez was named KCAC Pitcher of the Week. Its the second time in the last three weeks that he has earned the honor. Melendez had a record of 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. In six innings, he struck out seven and only allowed two hits. Southwestern had a 0.100 batting average against him.
Johnny Vulcano was named KCAC Player of the Week. He hit .529 (9-for-17), helping the Braves to a 4-0 record last week. Vulcano had six home runs, 13 RBI, a 1.533 slugging percentage, one walk, one hit by pitch, and a .579 slugging percentage. Six of his nine hits were home runs.
Ottawa has a record of 20-34-1 against Avila University. The Eagles took the series last season, 2-1. Avila won game one, 7-6, and game two, 3-2. The Braves took game three, 13-3. The first time the two teams met was on March 20, 1990. Avila won the game, 10-5.
Avila University has an overall record of 8-10, a KCAC mark of 4-2, and has a record of 7-4 at home this season. After sweeping Bethany on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, the Eagles went 1-2 against the University of Saint Mary.
