Baseball Travels to Kansas City, Mo. for a Weekend Series with Avila

Ottawa is on a four game winning streak after sweeping Southwestern College last weekend in Winfield. In those three games, Ottawa hit .382, scored 31 runs, hit five doubles and nine home runs, drove in 28 runs, had a .673 slugging percentage, walked 12 times, was hit by a pitch nine times, had a .481 on base percentage, and stole 11 bases. The Brave pitching staff had a 3.38 ERA, striking out 30 in 24 innings.

This season, Ottawa has a .286 batting average, a .371 on base percentage, a .453 slugging percentage, has hit 20 home runs, and scored 98 runs.

OU is ranked 28th in the NAIA in at bats (510), 33rd in hits (146), 24th in home runs (20), 47th in extra base hits (44), 33rd in total bases (231), 27th in hit by pitch (28), 47th in ERA (4.71), 34th in WHIP (1.40), 24th in shutouts (1), 46th in at bats against (472), and 26th in opponent batting average (.239).

In six KCAC games this season, Ottawa has a .378 batting average and is outscoring opponents 54-27. KCAC opponents are hitting .250 against OU.

Brent Swearingen leads the Braves with a .514 batting average and Johnny Vulcano lead the team with 15 RBI. Zack Melendez is OU's leader in ERA (1.17) and strike outs (34).

Ottawa has a record of 6-4 on the road this season. The Braves are hitting .277, have scored 60 runs, hit 10 doubles, one triple, and 16 home runs, have 51 RBI, a .475 slugging percentage, walked 31 times, have been hit by a pitch 17 times, have a .374 on base percentage, and have stolen 15 bases. The OU pitching staff has a 6.04 ERA and have struck out 77 in 73 innings. Opponents are hitting .277 against OU.

Zack Melendez was named KCAC Pitcher of the Week. Its the second time in the last three weeks that he has earned the honor. Melendez had a record of 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. In six innings, he struck out seven and only allowed two hits. Southwestern had a 0.100 batting average against him.

Johnny Vulcano was named KCAC Player of the Week. He hit .529 (9-for-17), helping the Braves to a 4-0 record last week. Vulcano had six home runs, 13 RBI, a 1.533 slugging percentage, one walk, one hit by pitch, and a .579 slugging percentage. Six of his nine hits were home runs.

Ottawa has a record of 20-34-1 against Avila University. The Eagles took the series last season, 2-1. Avila won game one, 7-6, and game two, 3-2. The Braves took game three, 13-3. The first time the two teams met was on March 20, 1990. Avila won the game, 10-5.

Avila University has an overall record of 8-10, a KCAC mark of 4-2, and has a record of 7-4 at home this season. After sweeping Bethany on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, the Eagles went 1-2 against the University of Saint Mary. Avila fell in game one of the series, 8-7, defeated the Spires 10-6 in game two but lost 11-8 in game three.

This season, Avila has a .252 batting average, a .397 on base percentage, and a .357 slugging percentage. The Eagles have hit five home runs and scored 107 runs.

Gio Armas leads the team with a .425 batting average. Landon Vahle has a team high 15 RBI. Alex Walton leads Avila in ERA (1.35) and strike outs (18).

Avila is ranked 27th in the NAIA in doubles (31), 39th in triples (4), 45th in RBI (99), 14th in walks (87), third in hit by pitch (38), second in hit into a double play (15), and 21st in at bats against (525).

In Avila's 11 home games this season, the Eagles have a .276 batting average with 85 hits, 65 RBI, 40 walks, 63 strike outs, a .396 on base percentage, and a .390 slugging percentage.
