OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated Baker University 54-0 on Wednesday night at AdventHealth Field.
Baker received the ball to start the game. Two plays into its drive, Ottawa had the pick.
Jukanie Washington intercepted the ball and OU's offense took over on the Baker 17 yard line.
Two plays later, OU was in the endzone.
Madysen Carrera threw a 17 yard touchdown pass to
Marley Spielberg. The extra point attempt was good and with 10:30 on the clock, Ottawa led 7-0.
Ottawa's defense forced a Baker punt and OU's offense took over on its own 40 yard line. The four play drive ended with a quarterback keeper by Carrera. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 14-0 lead with 5:59 left in the first quarter.
Baker did not keep the ball for long, just one play into its third offensive possession of the game the OU defense forced the turnover.
Faron Malouff recorded the interception and the Brave offense took over on the Baker 27 yard line.
OU's offense found the end zone for the third time in the game. Carrera connected with
Addison Orsborn for the 14 yard touchdown and OU led 20-0 with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter.
The OU defense forced a second Baker punt and the Braves had the ball on its own 25 yard line. Ottawa put together a seven play, 50 yard scoring drive that ended in a Carrera touchdown pass to
Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point was good, giving the Braves a 27-0 lead with 8:12 left in the first half.
Ottawa's defense forced a third Baker punt, giving OU the ball on its own 34 yard line. Six plays and 46 yards later, Carrera completed a 14 yard touchdown pass to Spielberg. The extra point was good and the Braves had a 34-0 lead with 2:18 remaining in the second quarter.
Baker put together its longest drive of the game with two minutes remaining in the first half. On the ninth play of the drive Malouff recorded her second interception of the game and OU took a 34-0 lead into the locker room.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. Ottawa's first drive of the second half ended at the Baker one yard line. But just one play into the fourth quarter, the Braves found the end zone. Carrera threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to
Mandolyn Scalisi. The extra point attempt was good and with 11:23 left in the game, Ottawa led 41-0.
On Baker's first offensive possession of the fourth quarter, the Braves came away with a take away.
Hailee McKay intercepted the ball, giving the OU offense the ball on its own 23 yard line with 7:46 on the clock.
Four plays and 57 yards later, Spielberg thew an 11 yard touchdown pass to
Madisen Berg. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Braves a 48-0 lead.
The OU defense forced another Baker punt and the offense took over on the Baker 39 yard line. For the eighth time in the game, Ottawa found the end zone.
Jaida Bayron threw a four yard touchdown pass to
Tatiana Dos Santos and the Braves took the lead and the game, 54-0.
