Women's Flag Football Moves Past Saint Mary, 65-0

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated the University of Saint Mary Spires, 65-0, on Saturday morning at AdventHealth Field.

Just four plays into the game the Braves took the lead. Madysen Carrera threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt was good and OU lead 7-0 with 9:56 to go in the first quarter.

The OU defense forced a three and out and the Brave offense took over on its own 27 yard line. Four plays later, Carrera connected with Alyssa Linkous for a 21 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 14-0 lead with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter.

Ottawa forced a second straight punt by the Spires and the OU offense took over on its own 39 yard line. This scoring drive only took three plays. Carrera and Linkous connected for the second time, this one for three yards and OU led 21-0 with 1:24 left in the first quarter.

Just one play into the Spires next offensive possession, it was a pick six for the Braves. Abby Brown intercepted the ball at the USM 16 yard line and returned it for the touchdown. That pick six gave OU a 28-0 lead over Saint Mary with 1:16 on the clock.

The OU defense came away with another turn over on the Spires fourth offensive possession of the game. Dejonice Parris broke up the pass and Brown recorded her second interception of the game, picking off the ball at the Spire 22 yard line. She returned it to the Spire 17 and the Braves took over with 10:05 left in the half.

It only took one play for the Braves to get into the end zone. Carrera threw a 17 yard touchdown pass to Mandolyn Scalisi and OU led 34-0 with 9:44 left in the second quarter.

USM's fifth offensive possession of the game ended like its previous two, with an OU interception. The Spires moved the ball to the OU 20 yard line. On the ninth play of the drive, Teliyah McInnis picked the ball and after a USM penalty, OU had the ball on its own 21 yard line.

This OU scoring drive took two plays. The first was a 39 yard pass to Tatiana Dos Santos. The second was a 29 yard touchdown pass to Linkous, and OU had a 40-0 lead with 4:15 left in the half.
Ottawa forced a Spire punt on USM's final drive of the half and OU took a 40-0 lead into the locker room.

The OU defense forced a USM punt at the start of the third quarter. Hannah Serquina had two sacks on the drive and Ottawa took over on the USM 29 yard line.

Three plays later OU was in the end zone. Carrera connected with Mar Martin-Claros for the seven yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and OU led 47-0 with 8:07 left in the third quarter.

The Braves forced a fifth punt by the Spires and the OU offense took over on its own 39 yard line. Four plays and 41 yards later the Braves crossed the goal line. Jaida Bayron threw a three yard touchdown pass to Bailey Hodgins and the Braves had a 53-0 lead with 3:02 left in the third quarter.

The OU defense, behind three straight sacks from Serquina, forced a sixth Spire punt.  With 11:42 left in the game, the Ottawa offense took over on its own 24 yard line.

On OU's 10th drive of the game, the Braves found the end zone. Bayron threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to Randrea Gamble and OU led 59-0 with 9:24 left in the contest.

The Spires turned the ball over on downs. The Braves did as well and USM took over on its own 12 yard line with 4:56 left in the game.

For the fourth time in the game, the OU defense picked the Spire quarterback. Cynthia Homs intercepted the ball at the OU 36 yard line and returned it to the Spire 16 yard line.

Three plays later, Ottawa was in the end zone for the 10th time. Bayron scrambled 23 yards for the touchdown, giving the Braves the lead and the game 65-0.
