(RV) Softball Plays (2) Oklahoma City in its First Game of the NAIA Opening Round in the OKC Bracket

The Braves finished the KCAC Tournament with a record of 2-2. Ottawa defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 4-1 and Avila University 11-3. OU fell 6-2 to Friends University and Tabor College, 6-1.

 Through 54 games this season, Ottawa has a .317 batting average, a .389 on base percentage, and a .470 slugging percentage. OU has hit 30 home runs and scored 351 runs.

The Braves are ranked sixth in the NAIA in at bats (1,459), eighth in runs (351), 16th in hits (466), 10th in doubles (94), fifth in triples (20), 27th in home runs (30), seventh in RBI (319), ninth in extra base hits (144), 11th in total bases (690), 15th in walks (159), 32nd in stolen bases (97), 37th in on base percentage (.389), 45th in batting average (.317), 29th in slugging percentage (.470), 28th in ERA (2.33), 35th in WHIP (1.23), 23rd in shut outs (12), and 21st in at bats against (1,360).

In 54 games this season, Ottawa is led in batting average (.370) by Addison Spencer. Megan Kennedy is OU's leader in RBI (63). Ashlynn Mercer leads the Braves in ERA (1.76) and strike outs (89).

The Braves had six players named to the All-KCAC Teams. They are Ashlynn Mercer, Madison Carney, Reagan Hammons, Nayely Delgado, Macy Roever, and Addison Spencer. Mercer was named to the KCAC Gold Glove Team.

Ottawa has a road record of 12-8 and is 6-3 against nationally ranked opponents this season. Away from Alumni Park this season, the Braves have a .290 batting average, is outscoring opponents 103-74, has a .436 slugging percentage, and a .348 on base percentage. OU is 36-for-41 in stolen base attempts. OU's pitching staff has a road ERA of 2.32 with 56 strike outs in 133 innings. Opponents have a .275 batting average against the Braves.

Monday's game is the 16th meeting between Ottawa University and no. 2 Oklahoma City University. OU has a record of 5-15 against OCU and is 2-3 in the last five meetings against the Stars. The last game between OU and OCU was on March 3, 2023 at the Red Dirt Classic in Oklahoma City. Ottawa fell, to then no. 1, OCU 8-0 in five innings. This will also be the second meeting between the two teams in the NAIA Opening  Round. OU and OCU played against each other on May 17, 2021 in Oklahoma City at Ann Lacy Stadium. The Braves defeated, then no. 2, OCU 3-1.

Oklahoma City University has an overall record of 51-3 and a 35-1 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Stars won the SAC with its only loss coming at the hands of USAO on March 15, 5-4. The Stars fell in the championship game of the SAC Tournament 3-1, to no. 6 USAO. Prior to that loss, OCU had won 24 straight games.

OCU had nine players named to the All-SAC Teams. Baileigh Loux was named SAC Player of the Year, Emerson Heron was named Newcomer of the Year, Tara Hoehner earned SAC Freshman of the Year, and OCU associate head coach Bobbi Bridges was named SAC Coach of the Year. Shelbey Cornelson, Amy Crabaugh, Kamryn Gavie, Kaitlyn Jones, Rally Radacy, and Tiffany Paul. Iliana Ashford was named to the SAC Gold Glove Team as an infielder.

Through 53 games this season, Oklahoma City has a .413 batting average, a .465 on base percentage, and a .665 slugging percentage. The Stars have hit 57 home runs and scored 456 runs.

Baileigh Loux leads OCU in batting average (.536) and RBI (64). Emerson Heron is the Stars' leader in ERA (0.89) and Shelby Cornelson is OCU's leader in strike outs (178).
