OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University head women's wrestling coach, Dalton Weidl, is pleased to announce the hiring of Hunter Wagner as the program's new assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to have Hunter Wagner back at Ottawa University as an assistant coach," said Weidl. "I watched Hunter train and compete during his time here at OU and followed his coaching journey this past season. We are confident he will help elevate and grow the goals and standard of achievement set by our women's team."
Wagner comes to Ottawa University from the Wattsburg Area School District in Wattsburg, Pa. He was the head wrestling coach at Seneca High School and ELA Learning Support at the Wattsburg Area Middle School.
"I am extremely excited to give back to a program that gave so much to me," said Wagner. "I want to give a special thanks to Dalton Weidl for giving me this opportunity and believing in me. I also want to give a shoutout to the staff and students at Ottawa University for welcoming me back with open arms! I truly believe that this team has the opportunity to make history and I know great things are in the works. It's a great day to be a Brave!"
Wagner is no stranger to Ottawa University. He was two-year letterman for the men's wrestling team. Wagner is a three-time NAIA National Tournament qualifier in the 149 pound weight class, twice for the Braves and once at Missouri Valley College. He was a two-time All-KCAC selection, winning the KCAC Championship in 2022 and placing second in 2023. Wagner finished his OU career with a record of 28-17 and a dual mark of 14-10. He was a NAIA Daktronic Scholar Athlete in 2022-23.
He graduated from Ottawa University with his degree in elementary education.
