LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Ottawa University football team opened its 2025 season in dominant fashion, rolling past Bethany College 37–6 on Saturday afternoon behind a balanced offensive attack and a smothering defensive performance.
First Quarter
The Braves wasted little time finding the scoreboard. After a defensive stop and solid field position,
Ike Prengel drilled a 48-yard field goal midway through the opening quarter to put Ottawa up 3–0. Just over two minutes later,
Luke Edwards connected with De'Anthony Curt on a 49-yard touchdown strike, extending the lead to 10–0. The Braves' defense controlled the rest of the quarter, holding Bethany without a first down on multiple drives.
Second Quarter
Ottawa continued to build momentum in the second. Following a Bethany fumble recovered by
Hagan Johnson, the Braves capitalized with another Prengel field goal—this time from 36 yards—to make it 13–0. The Braves' defense continued to shine, forcing two punts and limiting Bethany to just 11 total yards in the quarter. Edwards led a late drive into Swede territory, but the half ended with Ottawa firmly in control.
Third Quarter
Bethany briefly broke through early in the third, when NeTaveus Johnson capped a 62-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run. The extra point failed, trimming the lead to 13–6. Ottawa answered immediately—Edwards hit
AJ Moore for a 20-yard touchdown on the next drive, pushing the lead back to 20–6. The Braves didn't stop there. Curt found the end zone again, this time on the ground with a 31-yard rushing score, and moments later,
Jayden Johnson hauled in a 26-yard touchdown following a Bethany turnover to make it 34–6 heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Ottawa's offense continued to control the tempo, eating clock and adding one final score. Prengel converted his third field goal of the day—a 23-yarder—to seal the 37–6 victory. The Braves' defense slammed the door, holding Bethany scoreless and forcing multiple turnovers on downs to close out the game.
