OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team split with Missouri Valley College on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Park. Missouri Valley won game one, 8-6, but the Braves rebounded to take game two, 18-4.
Game One
Missouri Valley scored two runs in the top of the first and two in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the Viking lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Isaac Vega led OU off with a walk and
Donald Rhyne entered the game as a courtesy runner. Rhyne stole second to give the Braves a runner in scoring position.
Jackson Alaniz scored Rhyne with a ground out to short and OU was within 4-1.
Brian Parry singled to center and scored on a double to left by
Jeremy Freeman, Jr. cutting the Viking lead to 4-2.
MVC extended its lead with a run in the top of the fifth, two in the top of the sixth, and one in the top of the seventh to take an 8-2 lead over OU. Ottawa tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Ottawa loaded the bases.
Nicholas Sizemore hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring
Dylan Garcia and OU was down 8-3. Vega singled to right, scoring
Cole Broughton to cut the Viking lead to 8-4. A single to right by
Anthony Soria scored
Shaun Gomez, Jr. and the Braves trailed 8-5. Alaniz then doubled to center, scoring Rhyne to put the Braves within 8-6. The Braves, however, were not able to score Soria or Alaniz, who were on third and second, and Missouri Valley took the 8-6 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Brian Perry went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring one run. He also walked once.
- Jackson Alaniz led the Braves with two RBI.
Game Two
Ottawa's offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Braves had three hits, four walks and a hit by pitch to take the 7-0 lead.
Missouri Valley cut into OU's lead with a run in the top of the second, 7-1. Ottawa earned that run back in the bottom of the second.
Walks by
Isaac Vega and
Cole Broughton gave OU runners on first and second. The two move up 90 feet with a double steal.
Jackson Alaniz grounded out to short, scoring Vega to give OU an 8-1 lead.
The Braves continued to pour on the pressure offensively. Ottawa scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth to take the 18-4 victory.
