OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team started its series against Avila University with a 10-2 victory over the Eagles on Friday afternoon at Alumni Park.
Ottawa took the early lead over Avila in the bottom of the first inning.
Cole Broughton walked and then stole second.
Jackson Alaniz singled to left, scoring Broughton and OU had a 1-0 lead.
The Braves increased their lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Dylan Garcia doubled to right center. Broughton singled up the middle, scoring Garcia and the Braves had a 2-0 lead.
Nicholas Sizemore's double to left-center scored Broughton and Ottawa had a 3-0 lead.
Avila cut into the Brave lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning, 3-1. The Braves answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Julius Ryan reached first with a bunt single.
Anthony Soria singled to right, moving Ryan to third.
Jeremy Freeman, Jr.'s single up the middle scored Ryan and Soria, giving the Braves a 5-1 lead. Freeman stole second and then moved to third on a wild pitch.
Brian Parry's sacrifice fly to center scored Freeman and the Braves had a 6-1 lead.
The Eagles scored one run in the top of the sixth and OU's lead was cut to 6-2. The Braves earned that run back in the bottom of the seventh.
Parry singled to right and stole second to get into scoring position. A double to center scored Parry and Ottawa had a 7-2 lead.
Ottawa scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 10-2 lead. In the top of the ninth,
Luis Diaz struck out all three Eagles and OU took the 10-2 victory.
