MCPHERSON, Kan. – The (22) Ottawa University baseball team fell 15-14 on Tuesday afternoon at Bulldog Park.
McPherson struck first, taking a 2-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs increased their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs to take a 4-0 lead.4
Ottawa cut into the McPherson lead in the top of the fifth.
Jaquavius Davis led off the inning with a double to left-center.
Jeremy Freeman, Jr. walked and OU had runners on first and second. The duo then stole second and third, giving the Braves two runners in scoring position.
Julius Ryan's single to left scored Davis and OU trailed 4-1. Ottawa pushed two more runs across home plate on
Dylan Garcia's single to center and OU was down 4-3.
The Bulldogs answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 7-3.
Ottawa responded with eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Shaun Gomez, Jr. singled to left.
Nicholas Sizemore followed that with a home run and OU was down 7-5. Davis doubled to left-center, Freeman was hit by a pitch, and
Branden Franz hit a single up the middle to load the bases.
Julius Ryan hit a single to right-center. His hit scored Davis and Freeman to tie the game, 7-7.
After a Bulldog pitching change,
Dylan Garcia singled to left, scoring Franz to give OU an 8-7 lead.
Anthony Soria increased the Brave lead with an RBI single to right and Ottawa had a 9-7 lead. Ottawa scored two more runs in the inning. Gomez's single to right scored Garcia and Soria, giving the Braves an 11-7 lead.
McPherson earned two of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth and then scored another run in the bottom of the seventh to cut OU's lead to 11-10. The Braves were able to increase their lead in the top of the eighth on a home run by
Cole Broughton and OU led 12-10.
The Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 14-12 lead over OU. Ottawa tied the game in the top of the ninth.
Freeman was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a single to right-center by Garcia. Broughton scored Freeman with a single and OU trailed 14-13. Ottawa tied the game on a wild pitch.
Garrett Dodd, who was pinch running for Garcia, scored on the wild pitch and the contest was tied at 14 all.
McPherson was able to take the game in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, MC's Dawson Walters hit a walk-off home run, giving the Bulldogs the 15-14 victory.
