(19) Baseball is Tripped Up by York, 9-8

YORK, Neb. – The (19) Ottawa University baseball team fell 9-8 on a walk off single to York University on Friday afternoon.

York took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, 2-0. The Braves answered with two runs in the top of the second.

Back-to-back singles by Shaun Gomez, Jr. and Nicholas Sizemore gave OU runners on first and second. Jaquavius Davis' ground out moved both into scoring position. Jackson Alaniz's double to center tied the game, 2-2.

The Panthers broke the tie in the bottom of the second, 3-2. Ottawa answered with two runs in the top of the third. Back-to-back home runs by Dylan Garcia and Cole Broughton gave OU a 4-3 lead.
After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Ottawa increased its lead in the top of the sixth with a home run from Gomez, 5-3.

York rallied, scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh and one in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead over OU.

In the top of the ninth, the Braves retook the lead. Sizemore reached first on an infield single and Brian Parry entered the game as a courtesy runner. Davis' infield single moved Parry to second and OU had runners on first and second. Alaniz moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt Jeremy Freeman, Jr. loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Ottawa tied the game on Anthony Soria's ground out, 6-6. Julius Ryan singled up the middle, scoring both Davis and Freeman and OU led 8-6.

In the bottom of the ninth the Braves were unable to close out the game. York rallied, scoring three runs, taking the 9-8 victory.
