(19) Baseball Takes Game 2 of the Double Header With York

YORK, Neb. – The (19) Ottawa University baseball team split its double header with York University on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won game one, 11-6, while the Braves rebounded to take game two, 14-5.

Game One
York struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ottawa tied the game in the top of the second. Jackson Alaniz hit a home run, tying the game at 1-1.  

In the bottom of the second, the Panther scored four runs to retake the lead 5-1. York increased its lead over the Braves with a run in the bottom of the third and five runs in the bottom of the fourth, 11-1.
Ottawa cut into the Panther lead with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. put the ball over the fence and OU trailed 11-2.

The Braves scored another run in the top of the sixth inning. Nicholas Sizemore doubled to left center. A flyout to center by Alaniz moved Sizemore to third. Jaquavius Davis' sacrifice fly to right scored Sizemore and OU was down 11-3.

OU pushed two more runs across home plate in the top of the eighth. Shaun Gomez, Jr. doubled to left-center. Alaniz hit his second home run of the game to put OU within 11-5.

Ottawa was unable to rally in the top of the ninth, scoring one as York took the 11-6 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
York took the lead in the bottom of the first with two runs. Ottawa cut into the Panther lead with a run in the top of the second. Jackson Alaniz hit a home run, tying the game at 1-1.

In the top of the third, OU pushed two more runs across home plate on back-to-back home runs by Dylan Garcia and Shaune Gomez to take the lead, 3-2.

The Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, retaking the lead 4-3. Ottawa tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Branden Franz singled up the middle and then moved to second on a stolen base. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. doubled to left- center, scoring Franz and the game was tied 4-4.

In the top of the fifth, the OU offense exploded for seven runs and the Braves took a 11-4 lead. York cut into the Brave lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, 11-5.

The Braves answered with two runs in the top of the sixth to extend its lead. Alaniz singled to center and Brian Parry entered the game as a pinch runner. A Garrett Dodd walked moved Parry to second and OU two runners on. Davis singled to right-center, scoring Parry and OU led 12-5. Dodd scored on a wild pitch and the Braves had a 13-5 lead.

Ottawa scored one more run in the top of the seventh. Franz tripled to right. Freeman scored him with a ground out to the short stop and the Braves took the 14-5 victory.
