(19) Baseball Runs Past Friends, 20-5

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (19) Ottawa University baseball team won their second straight game with a 20-5 victory over Friends University on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves broke the school record for single season steals in the bottom of the fifth inning and now have 157 stolen bases this season.

Friends struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the top of the first inning. Ottawa answered in the bottom of the first. Shaun Gomez, Jr. hit his 13th home run of the season to tie the game at one apiece.

The Falcons responded with two runs in the top of the second to retake the lead, 3-1. In the bottom of the second, Ottawa rallied.

Nicholas Sizemore led off OU with a single to left. Jaquavius Davis hit his 10th home run of the season, scoring Sizemore and Ottawa tied the game 3-3. Branden Franz was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second with a sacrifice bunt by Jeremy Freeman, Jr. Anthony Soria moved Franz 90 feet from home with a single to left. Ottawa broke the tie on a sacrifice fly by Julius Ryan. Franz scored and the Braves had a 4-3 lead.

Ottawa scored another run, taking a 5-3 lead on an RBI single to right by Dylan Garcia. The Braves scored three more runs in the inning on a walk and a single to left by Davis and OU had an 8-3 lead.

The Falcons cut into OU's lead with two runs in the top of the third, 8-5. Ottawa earned those runs back, plus one more, in the bottom of the third.

Freeman reached second on a dropped fly ball by the Falcon center fielder. Ryan moved Freeman to third with a sacrifice bunt. Garcia's double to left scored Freeman and OU led 9-5. Gomez increased the OU lead with his second home run of the game and the Braves had a 11-5 lead.

The Braves continued to put pressure on the Falcon defense, scoring four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 20-5 lead. OU held Friends scoreless in top of the seventh, taking the 20-5 victory.
