(19) Baseball Sweeps (21) Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. – The (19) Ottawa University baseball team swept (21) Central Methodist University on Thursday afternoon at Estes Baseball Field. OU took game one 7-5 and game two, 6-4. It was OU's first win at Central Methodist since April 8, 1972 and the Braves' first road sweep of the Eagles in program history.

Game One
The Braves took the lead in the top of the first inning. Three straight singles by Dylan Garcia, Cole Broughton, and Shaun Gomez, Jr. loaded the bases for the Braves. Nicholas Sizemore doubled down the left field line, scoring Garcia and Broughton to give OU a 2-0 lead.

Ottawa increased its lead in the top of the third. Garcia led off OU with a home run to right-center and OU led 3-0. Broughton singled to left. Sizemore scored him with a triple to right, giving OU a 4-0 lead. The Braves scored one more run in the inning on an RBI ground out by Jaquavius Davis and the Braves had a 5-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Braves pushed another run across home plate. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. hit an infield single. He advanced to third on an error by the CMU pitcher. Julius Ryan scored Freeman with a sacrifice bunt, giving the Braves a 6-0 lead.

Central Methodist cut into the Brave lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within 6-5.

That is where the score stayed until the top of the ninth. Freeman singled to left and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Soria. Ryan advanced Freeman 90 feet from home with a bunt single. Broughton's sacrifice fly to center scored Freeman and Ottawa led 7-5.

In the bottom of the ninth it was three up and three down for the OU defense and the Braves took the 7-5 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
The Braves struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning. Julius Ryan was hit by a pitch. Dylan Garcia hit a home run to right field, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead. Cole Broughton singled to right and advanced to second on a ground out by Nicholas Sizemore. Jaquavius Davis singled to right-center, scoring Broughton and OU led 3-0. Jackson Alaniz increased the OU lead with a double to left-center.

His hit scored Davis, giving OU a 4-0 lead. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. followed that hit with a home run to left field and the Braves led 6-0.

Central Methodist scored four runs in the bottom of the first to cut OU's lead to 6-4. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the contest and the Braves took the 6-4 victory.
