SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ottawa University baseball team defeated Southern University at New Orleans 6-0 in its first game of the NAIA Opening Round Shreveport Bracket on Monday morning.
The Braves broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning.
Julius Ryan walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then stole third.
Jackson Alaniz's infield single scored Ryan, giving OU a 1-0 lead.
Ottawa increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Jaquavius Davis singled to left.
Anthony Soria's sacrifice bunt moved Davis to second.
Jesus Rodriguez scored Davis with a single up the middle and OU led 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, OU was able to push another run across home plate. Ryan walked. A triple to right-center by
Jeremy Freeman, Jr. increased the OU lead to 3-0.
The Braves continued to apply the pressure, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Cole Broughton singled to right-center. Soria moved him into scoring position with a double to left-center. Rodriguez doubled to left, scoring both Broughton and Soria and the Braves had a 5-0 lead.
Ottawa scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Alaniz singled to left and
Donald Rhyne entered as a pinch runner.
Nicholas Sizemore tripled, scoring Rhyne and the Braves took the lead and the game, 6-0.
