MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Ottawa University football team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, as (RV) McPherson College's high-powered offense proved too much in a 70-28 loss.
The Bulldogs struck quickly, putting up 28 points in the first quarter. Ryan Markarian tossed three touchdown passes in the opening frame, including strikes of 57 and 39 yards, while Jalil Brown added a 13-yard rushing score. Ottawa broke through late in the quarter when
Luke Edwards connected with
Jayden Johnson for a 26-yard touchdown, but McPherson answered immediately with a 71-yard bomb to lead 28-7 after one.
The second quarter belonged to McPherson, who added 21 more points. Kaden Millinder hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass, Santiago Salas broke free for a 38-yard rushing score, and Jonavan Asuncion returned an interception 100 yards as time expired in the half to give the Bulldogs a commanding 49-7 lead.
Ottawa responded in the third quarter with a pair of determined scoring drives.
Cooper Parsons punched in a 5-yard touchdown run, and
Anthony Powell capped another march with a 2-yard score to cut the deficit to 49-21. McPherson regrouped in the fourth, extending the lead with a 21-yard touchdown to Millinder, before Ottawa answered with an 11-yard touchdown run from
Keegan Ray. The Bulldogs sealed the game late with touchdowns from Greg Robinson and Jamai Rutherford.
