The Ottawa University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the ESU Spring Open on March 27 in Emporia, Kansas, posting solid marks across sprints, distance, relays, and field events.
Men's Recap
Ottawa saw strong depth across sprint and middle-distance events, highlighted by multiple top-15 finishes and a podium relay performance.
In the sprints, Casey Evink led the Braves in the 100 meters with a time of 11.04. In the 200 meters, Domonic Atkinstall paced Ottawa with a 10th place finish (22.01), while Wilson LeGrande (22.40) and Daniel Blount (23.10) added depth.
The Braves were especially active in the 800 meters, with Matthias Bessey leading the group (2:02.34), followed by Noah Wilson (2:04.27) and Dyson Battistoni (2:05.71).
In distance events, Brayden Moore delivered a strong showing in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing 10th with a time of 11:55.15.
The highlight on the track came from the 4x800 relay team of Battistoni, Bessey, Wilson, and Alijah Centeio, which placed 2nd overall (8:43.20).
In the field events, Daniel Blount cleared 1.96m (6'5") in the high jump to finish 7th, while Tabari Mason turned in a top-five finish in the triple jump (14.01m). Blake Walker added a mark of 5.84m in the long jump.
In throws, Alijah Centeio led Ottawa in the javelin with a mark of 40.50m.
Women's Recap
The Ottawa women showcased strong efforts in both track and field, highlighted by solid marks in throws and jumps.
On the track, Madison Miranda clocked a 15.16 in the 100 meters, while Alejandra Mezano posted a time of 2:47.28 in the 800 meters.
In the jumps, Saraiah Ervin cleared 1.44m in the high jump, and Kayla Whiteaker recorded a mark of 4.66m in the long jump.
The throws group led the way for Ottawa. Kena Leonard posted a strong 11.18m in the shot put, while Zoie Means-Thomas added 8.92m. In the discus, Means-Thomas led the Braves with a throw of 34.11m, followed closely by Ciera Hutton-Spieker (33.52m) and Marissa Andrus (30.26m).
In the hammer throw, Trejanna Williams led Ottawa with a mark of 36.82m, with Hutton-Spieker adding 33.94m.
The javelin saw another strong showing, as Rian Boub recorded a team-best throw of 38.64m. Andrus added 32.69m, and Miranda contributed a mark of 25.13m.
