Track and Field Turns in a Strong Showing at Spire Distance Carnival & Team Challenge

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Ottawa University men's and women's track & field posted a number of strong performances at the Spire Distance Carnival & Team Challenge, highlighted by event wins, top-three finishes, and multiple personal-best caliber efforts across both squads.


Men's Recap

Ottawa's men were led by a dominant sprint performance from Dominic Aktinstal, who captured the 200m title with a time of 21.14 while also placing second in the 100m (10.53) . His efforts set the tone for a strong showing in the sprint group.

In the 400m, Wilson LeGrande turned in a runner-up finish (48.97), leading a deep Braves group that saw four athletes place inside the top 15 .

Ottawa also found success in the hurdles, where Braylon Brown posted a 15.93 in the 110m hurdles, while Dyson Battistoni clocked 1:02.13 in the 400m hurdles.

The Braves distance crew was highlighted by Matthias Bessey, who led Ottawa in the 800m with a time of 1:59.84.

The relay squads also delivered:

  • 4x100 A team placed 2nd (41.97)
  • 4x400 relay finished 6th (3:23.57)

Overall, Ottawa's men showed strong depth across sprints, jumps, and relays.


Women's Recap

The Ottawa women were equally impressive, highlighted by a first-place finish from JayOnna Perry, who won the 400m hurdles in 1:00.44 and also claimed the 100m hurdles title (14.03) .

The sprint group was led by Tanzania Barnes, who placed third in the 200m (25.06) and fifth in the 100m (12.22). She also helped power the Braves' 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish (46.04).

Ottawa's relay team of Barnes, Perry, Jah-Nisha Campbell, and Roy'Janae Brown delivered one of the top performances of the meet with that winning time.

In the jumps:

The throwing group saw strong marks from:

  • Zoe Means-Thomas — 34.22m in discus and 9.80m in shot put
  • Trienna Williams — 38.55m in hammer
  • Rian Boub — 2nd place in javelin (37.96m)
