2016: Byers appeared in 11 games as a freshman, earning Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors as a utility player. He led the Braves in rushing, finishing the year with 905 yards for an average of 5.8 yards per rush. Byers scored 11 rushing touchdowns and averaged 82.3 yards rushing per game. At quarterback, Byers had a passing efficiency of 124.6 and went 62-for-120 through the air for 768 yards. He threw 10 touchdowns and averaged 69.8 yards per game passing.

High School: Byers was a three year letterman on the football field for Bonner Springs High School. He also earned three letters in basketball and baseball for the Braves. Byers earned All-State honors at quarterback, defensive back, and punter for BSHS. He was a 2014 SHU BC Offensive Player of the Year, earned All-KVL honors, was a Papa John’s Player of the Week, and a Max Preps Player of the Week selection. In 2015 Byers had 1,664 yards passing, threw 20 touchdowns, rushed for 1,048 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2014 he threw for 1,963 yards and 20 touchdowns. Byers rushed for 658 yards and eight touchdowns. Byers was selected to play in the 2016 Kansas Shrine Bowl.

Personal: Byers is the son of Kristin Moulin and Tom Byers ... exercise science major. Byers is the grandson of NAIA Hall of Fame football coach, Dr. Ted Kessinger. He is the nephew of OU head football coah Kent Kessinger.
