2016: Smith redshirted.

2015: At the Haskell Indian Nations University Invite, Smith finished 35^th with a time of 28:19.53. He placed 61^st at the Southwestern Mid States Meet, running a time of 27:41.40. Smith had a time of 28:01.3 at the KCAC Men’s Cross Country Championships to finish 34^th. He ran a time of 30:04 to finish 193^rd at the Roy Griak Invitational.

2014: Smith ran a time of 29:49 at the Romp on the Ridge hosted by Hutchinson Community College. He finished the ESU Invitational with a time of 30:01. Smith had a time of 28:59 at the Haskell Indian Nations Invitational. He finished the Bethel Invitational with a time of 28:13, his best of the season. At the Mid States Classic hosted by Southwestern College, Smith finished the race with a time of 28:40. He ran a time of 28:42.9 at the KCAC Championships.

2013: In his first collegiate race, Smith finished 61^st with a time of 29:36 at the Viking Invitational hosted by Grand View University. He placed 26^th with a time of 29:24.79 at the Haskell Indian Nations University Invite. Smith helped lead the Braves to the team title at the Bo Boucek Invitational, running a time of 31:15 to finish 12^th. He finished 52^nd at the KCAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 29:19.42.
