2016-17: Newman split time between the varsity and junior varsity in his freshman season. He appeared in nine games at the varsity level. Newman shot 20 percent from the floor and 25 percent from the free throw line.
Link Year Prep: Newman, a 6-0 guard, earned one letter on the basketball court at Link Year Prep.
High School: A Blue Eye High School, Newman lettered in basketball and cross country. He was an All-District, All-Conference, and All-Tournament team selection. He was a Jarred Piltz All-Star and a SWMO All-Star. In cross country, Newman was a three-time District Champion, a three time Missouri State qualifier, and three-times earned All-Conference honors. During the summers, Newman attended several camps including Snow Valley, Kanakuk, Lincoln University, Avila University, the University of Iowa, the University of Arkansas, the University of Kansas, College of the Ozarks, and Point Guard College. He earned the Hustle Award at College of the Ozarks, the Leadership Band at Point Guard College, and the Best Passer Award at Snow Valley. Off of the court, Newman was Vice President of Wheeler High School’s National Honor Society, a leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, on the WHS Student Council, Math Club President, in the IT Club, was named WHS Student of the Month, part of the Master Craftsmen, and involved in the Drama Club. In the community, Newman ehlped with the Veterans Dinner, the Senior Citizens Dinner, was a volunteer at the Blue Eye Saddle Club, volunteered to coach youth basketball, did a Back Pack for Kids program, was a tutor, and officiated youth basketball games.
Personal: Newman is the son of Larry and Tamara Newman and plans to major in biology.
