OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team won their ninth straight game with a 7-3 victory over Avila University on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Park. The win gives OU a 3-0 series victory over Avila.
The Braves took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Jonah Weisner led things off with a walk and then swiped second to give OU a runner in scoring position.
Tyler Farnham singled to left, scoring Weisner and Ottawa led 1-0.
Holland Boan walked and then advanced to third on a single to center by
Nicholas Sizemore. Sizemore moved to second on the throw and the Braves had two runners in scoring position.
Carson Johnson hit his fourth home run of the season, scoring three to give the Braves a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Ottawa pushed one more run across home plate. Weisner singled to left. The Eagle left fielder mishandled the ground ball and it went back to the fence, moving Weisner to third. Farnham singled up the middle, scoring Weisner and the Braves had a 5-0 lead.
Ottawa scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Zachary Spradlin doubled to center and then touched home plate on Weisner's 12
th home run of the season and Ottawa led 7-0.
Avila cut into OU's lead with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, 7-3.
Creede Jeffers entered the game in the top of the seventh. He faced nine batters. Jeffers didn't allow one to reach base as the Braves took the 7-3 victory.
