LINDSBORG, Kan. – The (17) Ottawa University baseball team won its 10
th straight game, taking a 5-2 victory in game one of its three game series with Bethany College on Friday afternoon.
Bethany struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the first inning. The Swedes took advantage of an error by the Braves to take the early lead.
That is where the score stayed until the top of the sixth.
Tyler Farnham led Ottawa off with a single to right.
Holland Boan followed that with a single to left, moving Farnham to second.
Connor Jeffers reached first on an error by Bethany, loading the bases.
The Braves took the lead on double by
Nicholas Sizemore. His hit scored Farnham and Boan to give OU a 2-1 lead. Ottawa increased its to 3-1 on a single to left by
Carson Johnson.
Luis DeLeon's single to right scored
Brad Grant, who was in as a courtesy runner for Sizmore, and the Braves lead 4-1.
In the top of the seventh, Ottawa pushed one more run across home plate. Boan hit his 19
th home run of the season, giving Ottawa a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bethany cut into OU's lead with home run by Luis Rodriguez Gorritz.
Stephen Norrell responded by getting two ground outs and a strike out and Ottawa took the 5-2 victory.
