OTTAWA, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University softball team came away with a sweep of Kansas Wesleyan University on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Park. Ottawa defeated KWU 2-1 in nine innings in game one and then after an hour lightning delay, the Braves took game two 8-0 in six innings.
Game One
The Coyotes broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the ninth, scoring one run to take a 1-0 lead. Ottawa answered in its bottom half of the inning.
Madison Bunfill, who was on second because to the international tie breaker rule, stole third and Ottawa had a runner 60 feet from home.
Kelcie Kippes reached first on a fielder's choice, giving OU runners on the corners. Kippes then stole second to give the Braves two runners in scoring position.
With one out,
Jillian Kygar laid down a bunt. The Coyotes tried to get
Madison Bunfill out at home but she beat the throw, tying the game at 1-1. The ball then got past the KWU catcher, prompting Kippes to come home and the Braves took the game, 2-1.

Game Two
After one OU batter in the bottom of the first, the game was sent into an hour lightning delay. Once the all-clear sign was given, the OU bats came out ready.
With two outs, in the bottom of the first,
Allison Kearney walked and then swiped second.
Madison Bunfill walked, and Ottawa had two on.
Hannah Copeland's single scored Kearney to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. The Braves then pulled off the double steal with Copeland stealing second and Bunfill taking home, giving OU a 2-0 lead.
The Braves increased their lead in the bottom of the third. Kearney connected on her fifth home run of the season to give Ottawa a 3-0 lead over Kansas Wesleyan.
In the bottom of the fifth, OU pushed three more runs across home plate.
Justyse Rodriguez led off with a double to center. Kearney singled to center, scoring Rodriguez and Ottawa led 4-0. Bunfill followed that with a single to left, scoring Kearney to give the Braves a 5-0 lead. Ottawa scored one more run in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Kippes and the Braves had a 6-0 lead.
Ottawa ended the game in bottom of the sixth.
Aliks Serna singled to center and then moved to second on a
Cierra Faubion walk. A wild pitch moved Serna to third and Faubion to second.
Justyse Rodriguez laid down a bunt, scoring Serna to give the Braves a 7-0 lead. Kearney ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Faubion to give Ottawa the 8-0 victory.
