OTTAWA, Kan. – The (13) Ottawa University baseball team completed its series sweep of no. 22 Tabor College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park, taking game three 13-5. OU is on a 15 game winning streak and have a three game lead over McPherson College and a 4.5 game lead over Tabor in the KCAC standings with four games remaining in the regular season.
Ottawa took the early lead over Tabor in the bottom of the first.
Tyler Farnham reached first on an error by the TC shortstop.
Holland Boan was then intentionally walked, giving OU runners on first and second.
Connor Jeffers loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch.
Nicholas Sizemore singled, scoring Farnham and Ottawa took a 1-0 lead.
The Braves increased their lead over the Bluejays in the bottom of the second with five runs.
Logan Zozaya was hit by a pitch.
Zachary Spradlin moved him to second with a bunt single.
Jonah Weisner doubled to right, scoring Zozaya and Spradlin to give the Braves a 3-0 lead. In his second straight at bat, Boan was walked, and the Braves had two on with one out. Jeffers singled, scoring both Boan and Weisner and Ottawa led 6-0.
OU continued to push runs across home plate, adding five more in the bottom of the third.
Luis DeLeon walked. Spradlin laid down another bunt single, moving DeLeon to second. Weisner scored DeLeaon with a single and Ottawa had a 7-0 lead. Farnham followed that single with one of his own, scoring Spradlin to give the Braves an 8-0 lead.
After a pitching change by the Bluejays, Boan came to the plate. He hit his sixth home run of the series, scoring Farnham and Weisner to give OU an 11-0 lead.
Tabor cut into the Brave lead with three runs in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the eighth, 11-5. The Braves earned two of those runs back in the bottom of eighth. Farnham scored on an error by the Tabor catcher to give Ottawa a 12-5 lead. OU scored one more run in the inning on an RBI single by Sizemore and the Braves had a 13-5 lead. In the top of the ninth, Tabor's leadoff reached first. The OU defense got a double play and then the next batter popped out to give Ottawa a 13-5 victory.
