#RV Braves Sweep Haskell

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team finished the regular season on a nine game winning streak after a double header sweep of Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday afternoon. The Braves won game one, 2-0, and took game two, 10-0 in five innings.

Game One
Ottawa took the lead in the top of the first inning. Riley Newbold walked to lead off the game for OU. Justyse Rodriguez's ground out, moved Newbold to third. Newbold then scored on an error by the Haskell shortstop, giving OU a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Braves increased their lead. With two outs, Madison Bunfill reached first on a walk and then moved to second on an error by the HINU shortstop. Kelcie Kippes scored Bunfill with a double to left and OU led 2-0.

Loralei Gilbert entered the bottom of the seventh, striking out one to get the save.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
Newbold reached first on a walk to lead off the game for OU. Justyse Rodriguez sacrificed Newbold into scoring position. Allison Kearney sacrificed Newbold home, giving OU a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third the Braves broke open the game by scoring six runs in the inning. Cierra Faubion reached first on an error by the HINU shortstop. A sacrifice bunt by Newbold moved Faubion to second. Rodriguez doubled to left, scoring Faubion to give OU a 2-0 lead.

Kearney singled, scoring Rodriguez and OU led 3-0. Madison Bunfill scored Kearney with a single, pushing OU's lead to 4-0. Hannah Copeland walked and Kelcie Kippes hit an infield single, loading the bases for the Braves.

Jillian Kygar came through with runners in scoring position and singled to right-center, scoring Copeland and Bunfill to give OU a 6-0 lead. Ottawa scored one more run in the inning. Aliks Serna hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Kippes and OU had a 7-0 lead.

The Braves extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Copeland doubled to right-center, scoring two to give OU a 9-0 lead. OU pushed one run across home plate in the top of the fifth. Kygar tripled to right-center, bringing in CaiLyn Nye in as a pinch runner. Newbold reached first on an error by the HINU centerfielder. Nye scored on that miscue and the Braves won the game 10-0.

Ottawa (32-11-1, 20-4) will open the KCAC Tournament in Great Bend, Kan. on May 4 against the University of Saint Mary. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
