Braves Host Bethany on Thursday

The Braves won their second straight game with a 67-60 victory over McPherson on Monday night at The Sport Center. Ottawa shot 32.8 percent from the floor, 21.4 percent from behind the arc, and 78.9 percent from the free throw line. Nicole Brown scored 33 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. She also had two assists, one block, and one steal. Cierra Brown came off the bench to score nine points Alyssa Guzman had eight assists.

Nicole Brown leads the Braves in scoring (15.3), rebounding (11.2), and blocks (2.1). Cierra Brown is Ottawa's leader in assists (2.1) and steals (1.6).

Ottawa's 12 wins are the most by the Braves since OU won 18 games in 2016-17.

Nicole Brown finished OU's win over McPherson on Monday night with 33 points and 20 rebounds. Her 33 points, which is tied for sixth in single game scoring, were three points off the school record of 36 that was set by Marty Decker against MidAmerica Nazarene University on Jan. 6, 1976. Brown's 20 rebounds tie her for third in the OU record book in single game rebounding.

The Braves are 8-1 in Wilson Field House this season with its lone loss coming against Sterling College. At home this season, Ottawa averages 75.2 points per game while holding opponents to 55.1 points per game. OU shoots 41.6 percent from the floor, 28.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 78 percent from the free throw line. Opponents shoot 32.3 percent from the floor, 23.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 67.8 percent from the free throw line.

In KCAC games this season, Ottawa is scoring 61.9 points per game. Conference opponents are scoring 60.8 points per game against the Braves. OU is shooting 39.5 percent from the floor, 26.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 70.1 percent from the free throw line. Conference opponents are shooting 35.9 percent from the floor, 27.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 71.1 percent from the free throw line.

This season, Ottawa is averaging 68.2 points, 40 rebounds, and 13 assists per game. The Braves are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 73.3 percent from the free throw line.

OU is ranked 29th in the NAIA in free throw percentage (.733), 30th in defensive rebounds per game (29.4), 27th in blocks per game (3.8), and 13th in opponent field goal percentage (.350).

Thursday's contest is the 92nd meeting between Ottawa University and Bethany College. The Swedes lead the series 58-33 and BC is on a nine game winning streak against the Braves. Bethany has won four straight against the Braves in Wilson Field House. The last time OU defeated Bethany in Ottawa was on Jan. 27, 2018. OU won the game 63-41. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Feb. 12, 1908 in Ottawa. OU won the game 22-20.

Ottawa lost the first meeting against Bethany this season in Lindsborg, 71-54 on Nov. 28. In the loss, Ottawa shot 37.8 percent from the floor, 23.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 58.6 percent from the free throw line. OU had three players in double figures led by Nicole Brown's 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor. Jayla Johnson and Cierra Brown had 10 points apiece. Cierra Brown led OU with eight rebounds and three assists.

Bethany College is 15-5 overall, 13-2 in the KCAC, are on a nine game winning streak, and have a road record of 7-2. The Swedes' last loss came on Dec. 3 in Lindsborg against Sterling College. The Warriors won the game 71-69.

BC enters Thursday's game coming off a 79-68 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Lindsborg on Monday night. In the win, BC shot 50.8 percent from the floor, 50 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 59.1 percent from the free throw line. Emily Weathers led the team in scoring with 20 points. Lauren Gleason scored 18 points and Autumn Garrett and R'Manie Pulling finished with 10 points apiece.

Emily Weathers leads Bethany in scoring (13.7), rebounding (5.5) and blocks (0.6). R'Manie Pulling is the team's leader in assists (2.8) and steals (1.6) per game.

In Bethany's 15 victories, the Swedes are averaging 73.6 points per game and shooting 45 percent from the floor. In their five losses, Bethany is scoring 60.6 points per game and shooting 35 percent from the floor.

This season the Swedes are averaging 70.3 points, 35 rebounds, and 13.7 assists per game. They are shooting 42.4 percent from the floor, 30 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.4 percent from the free throw line.

Bethany is ranked 52nd in the NAIA in steals per game (10.3), 46th in points allowed per game (59.8), 30th in opponent field goal percentage (.358), and 34th in opponent 3-pt field goal percentage (.260).
