EMPORIA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Emporia State University at the Kossover Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
Emporia State took a 1-0 lead in doubles.
Oscar Giorgio and
Almog Cohen fell 6-2 to Diego Calvo and Anton Sarunic in no. 2 doubles. Ottawa tied the contest, 1-1, with
Jhoel Quinonez and
Jarmo Perez Wienese's 7-6 (8-6) in win in no. 1 doubles over Mostafa Elbasnaly and Sergio Vera. The Hornets took the doubles point, 2-1 in no. 3 doubles.
Santiago Tartaglia and
Bernardo Figueiredo were defeated 6-3 by Harrison Brown and Harris Kossover.
Perez Wienese lost 6-1, 6-2 in no. 2 singles to Vera and ESU had a 2-0 lead over the Braves. Quinonez fell 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) to Sarunic in no. 1 singles, giving the Hornets a 3-0 lead. Ottawa cut into the ESU lead with Tartaglia's 6-1, 6-3 win in no. 4 singles over Calvo, 3-1. Giorgio lost 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) to Elbasnaly in no. 3 singles and ESU clinched the match, 4-1. Cohen was defeated 6-1, 6-3 in no. 5 singles by Brown. Russell lost 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) to Kossover in no. 6 singles.
Ottawa (2-2) returns to the court on Monday, Feb. 19 in Siloam Springs, Ark. against John Brown University. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
