LINDSBORG, Kan. - The Ottawa men's tennis team competed at the KCAC Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday.
In the no. 1 singles bracket,
Santiago Tartaglia won his first match, 9-7, over Nils Deuppe from the University of Saint Mary. He then beat Francisco Bravo of Bethany College 9-7 and Jorge Batista from Bethel College 6-2, 6-4 to capture the no. 1 singles title.
Enzo Ceravolo dropped his first match in the no. 3 singles bracket to Martin Priban from Bethany College, 6-8.
Daniel Sanchez Rojas won his first match in the no. 4 singles bracket, 8-3 over Marius Moulard of Oklahoma Wesleyan University before falling to Gustavo Cardoso from Bethany College, 4-8. Sanchez Rojas won the third-place match, 8-3 over Evangel University's Emilio Chavarria.
Yuki Usuda was defeated 6-8 by Davian Spies of McPherson College in the first match of the no. 5 singles bracket, and defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University's Preston Callahan in the no. 3 singles bracket, 7-5.
Valentin Corriger was defeated 0-8 in his first match of the no. 6 singles bracket by Dylan Gwilt of Bethany College.
The doubles team of
Santiago Tartaglia and
Daniel Sanchez Rojas won their first match of the no. 2 doubles bracket over Marius Moulard and Yassine Azehaf from Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 8-6. They then beat Emilio Chavarria and Emiliano Arjona of Evangel University, 8-3 to advance to the championship. There they were defeated 6-8 by Bethel College's Billy Haoda and Jorge Batista.
The doubles team of
Yuki Usuda and
Valentin Corriger won their first match of the no. 3 doubles bracket over Friends University's Jacob Bush and Gabriel Gonzalez, 8-2. They were then defeated 2-8 by Rubem Bogomoltz and Kazuki Fukushima from Sterling College.
Ottawa (1-0) returns to the court again at the ITA Regional Championships in Salina, Kansas from September 26-28.
