Women's Basketball Hosts Avila on Wednesday Night

The Braves have an overall record of 13-9 and are tied for seventh in the KCAC with a record of 8-8. Ottawa enters Wednesday's game coming off an 87-66 road victory over McPherson College The win was OU's 13th of the season. 

Ottawa is averaging 75.8 points, 40.3 rebounds, and 15.7 assists per game. OU is shooting 40.3 percent from the floor, 31.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 70.9 percent from the free throw line. 

McKinley Kruger leads the Braves in scoring (12.3), assists (2.4), and steals (1.7). Alliyah Brown is OU's leader in rebounds (6.6) and Ashlynn Arnsman leads Ottawa in blocks (0.6) per game.

Wednesday is the 47th game between Ottawa University and Avila University. The series is tied, 23-23 and Ottawa is 2-3 in its last five games against the Eagles. AU won the first meeting this season in Kansas City, Mo., 68-67, on Jan. 7. Ottawa won the first ever meeting between the two teams on Dec. 9, 1975 in Wilson Field House, 108-37. 

In Ottawa's 68-67 loss to Avila on Jan. 7, 2025 in Mabee Fieldhouse, With five seconds left, Clare Williams converted a layup to put Ottawa ahead 67–66. Avila quickly answered, as Madilyn Melton finished in the paint with one second remaining to seal the 68–67 decision.

The Braves will be celebrating National Girls & Women's in Sports Day on Wednesday night. NGWSD is celebrating the achievements of female athletes, recognizing sports' positive influence, and promoting equality for women and girls in sports, started in 1987 to honor Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman and advocated by the Women's Sports Foundation. It's a day for community events, clinics, and recognizing leadership potential in girls through sports, focusing on overcoming barriers and fostering inclusivity. 

Avila University is 12-10 overall, is tied for seventh in the KCAC with a mark of 8-8, is on a one game losing streak, and has a record of 3-7 on the road this season. The Eagles enter Wednesday's game coming off an 84-67 loss at Friends on Jan. 31. Prior to that loss, the Eagles had won five straight games. 

Madilyn Melton leads Avila in scoring (17.2) and rebounds (6.5) per game. Marlie Wright is AU's leader in assists (5.3) and steals (1.9) per game. Kaylee Comstock leads the team in blocks (1.0) per game.
