LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's tennis team won its second straight match, taking a 6-1 victory over Baker University at Genesis on Sunday afternoon. OU won the doubles point, 2-1 and had a record of 5-1 in singles.
Oscar Giorgio and
Julian Toloza took a 1-0 lead in doubles after defeating Anh Nguyen and Kyler Kosanke 6-1 I no. 3 doubles. Baker won no 2. doubles, Valentin Dignac and Fabian Martinez defeated
Erik Czapinski and
Austin Ramirez 6-2 to tie doubles, 1-1. Ottawa clinched the doubles point with
Jhoel Quinonez and
Kevin Ugarteche's win in no. 1 doubles over Davis Steadman and Alejandro Carreno, 6-4.
The Braves took a 2-0 lead with Quinonez's win in no. 2 singles over Dignac 6-0, 6-3. Czapinski's victory in no. 4 singles over Steadman, 6-0, 6-2 gave OU a 3-0 lead. Ottawa took the match with Toloza's victory in no. 3 singles over Martinez 6-2, 6-2.
Ramirez won his no. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Nguyen. Ugarteche defeated Carreno in no. 1 singles, 6-7, 6-1, 10-6. Pereira fell 6-0, 2-6, 10-8 in no. 5 singles to Kosanke.
Ottawa (3-1) returns to the court on Thursday, March 9 against Maryville University, head coach
Dony McKnight's alma mater, in St. Louis, Mo. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
