ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Ottawa University men's tennis team took a 6-1 victory over Maryville University on Thursday afternoon at Sunset Tennis Center. The Braves won the doubles point, 3-0 and finished singles with a record of 5-1.
The Braves no. 1 doubles team of
Oscar Aguilera and
Julian Toloza defeated Tom Schmitt and Sebastian Trigosso 7-5.
Oscar Giorgio and
Santiago Tartaglia won their no. 2 doubles match over Mario Aleksic and Juan Suero, 6-2. Johel Quinonez and
Kevin Ugarteche won their no. 3 doubles match by default.
Aguilera won his no. 6 match by default, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead. Maryville cut into OU's lead with a win no. 1 singles. Giorgio fell 6-0, 6-1 to Aleksic, 2-1. Quinonez's 6-4, 6-4 victory in no. 5 singles over Suero gave OU a 3-1 lead. Ottawa clinched the match, 4-1, with a win in no. 4 singles. Toloza defeated Trigosso 7-5, 6-3. Tartaglia defeated Schmitt 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in no. 3 singles and Ugarteche won his no. 2 singles match, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3 over Jose Hernandez.
Ottawa (4-1) will now play Missouri Baptist University in Saint Louis, Mo. on Friday, March 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
