Maryville University: O’Dowd earned two letters in baseball for MU. As a freshman, he appeared in 19 games, making 12 starts. O’Dowd had 11 hits in 27 at bats for a .297 batting average. He scored three runs, hit two doubles, drove in one run, had a slugging percentage of .351, tallied two walks, had an on base percentage of .333, and finished with three sacrifice hits. In his second collegiate season, O’Dowd played in 20 games and made six starts for MU. He finished the season with a .182 batting average, tallying four hits in 22 at bats. O’Dowd scored three runs, had two RBI, finished with a .182 slugging percentage, had a .250 on base percentage, earned one walk, and was 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
High School: O’Dowd lettered in baseball for New Bloomfield High School. He was a team captain for the Wildcats and was a Second Team All-Area, All-District, and All-Conference selection. O’Dowd excelled in the classroom as well and was named to the Academic All-Conference team. As a junior he was named to the Missouri All-State Team as a utility player, was the District MVP, and earned First Team All-Conference honors. As a senior, O’Dowd was named the team’s MVP and led the Wildcats in batting average, ERA, RBIs, and stolen bases. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
