Box Score 2 KANAS CITY, Mo. – The (22) Ottawa University softball team split with Avila University on Saturday afternoon at The Z. Ottawa fell in game one 5-2 but bounced back to take game two, 11-8.
Game One
Avila took an early lead over the Braves with three runs in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the second. Ottawa cut into the Avila lead in the top of the fourth.
Kelcie Kippes singled and then advanced to second on the throw.
Jillian Kygar doubled to center, scoring Kippes and Ottawa was down 5-1.
The Braves cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth.
Cierra Faubion doubled to center.
Riley Newbold singled down the right field line, scoring Faubion and the Braves were within 5-2.
Ottawa was not able to rally in its final two at bats and Avila took the 5-2 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Riley Newbold was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in one run and walking once.
- Casson Rasmussen pitched six innings in the loss, striking out three.
Game Two
The Braves broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second.
Kelcie Kippes led the inning off with a single to left.
Jillian Kygar singled to center, moving Kippes to second.
CaiLyn Nye put down a sacrifice bunt, moving Kippes and Kygar both into scoring position.
Cierra Faubion walked, loading the bases for the Braves.
Riley Newbold gave OU a 1-0 lead on her ground out to second. Kippes scored and the Braves led 1-0.
Justyse Rodriguez walked, loading the bases once more for OU.
Allison Kearney singled up the middle, scoring Kygar and Faubion to give OU a 3-0 lead.
Avila cut into OU's lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, 3-2. In the top of the fifth, Ottawa's offense exploded for five runs, giving them an 8-2 lead.
Allison Kearney started things off with a walk. Madison Bunfil's double to right-center moved Kearney to third.
Hannah Copeland scored Kearney with a single to left and OU led 4-2.
Kygar bunted, scoring Bunfill on the fielder's choice, increasing the OU lead to 5-2. Faubion single to left scored Copeland to give Ottawa a 6-2 lead. After an Eagle pitching change,
Riley Newbold and Rodriguez walked, scoring Kygar and the Braves has a 7-2 lead. Kearney followed that with a single to left, scoring Faubion and Ottawa had an 8-2 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Ottawa scored three more runs. Copeland doubled to right, bringing in
Brooklin Mathers in the pinch run. Kippes grounded out to second, moving Mathers to third. Kygar's bunt single scored Mathers and Ottawa had a 9-4 lead.

Macey Morris, increasing the Ottawa lead to 10-4. Newbold's double to left scored Faubion and Ottawa led 11-4. Avila tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs, but it wasn't enough as OU took the 11-8 victory.
