#13 Braves Wait For Next Opponent in the KCAC Tournament


Ottawa is 42-7 overall. Through 49 games, the Braves have scored 438 runs and hit 78 home runs. OU has a .322 batting average, a .435 on base percentage, and a .556 slugging percentage.

OU has lost its seven games by an average of 2.7 runs. Its largest deficit was six runs and that was twice: Kansas Christian 10-4 and McPherson College, 12-6. The other five losses were by a total of seven runs, an average of 1.4 runs per loss.

Holland Boan leads the Braves in batting average (.427) and RBI (68). Hector Sepulveda is OU's leader in ERA (2.35) and Tyler Bryant leads Ottawa in strike outs (112).

The Braves have three pitchers that have struck out 100 or more batters this season for the first time in program history. Stephen Norrell has 100 strike outs, Tyler Bryant has 112 strike outs, and Hector Sepulveda has 109 strike outs. It is the second time that Norrell has struck out 100 or more batters in a season. He finished 2021 with 125 strike outs. Only two other OU pitchers has struck out 100 or more batters in a season: Eric Cordell (107) in 2009 and Brian Woods (102) in 2005.  

OU had nine players named to the All-KCAC Teams. Head Coach Gabe Grinder was named KCAC Coach of the Year, Holland Boan was named KCAC Player of the Year, and Tyler Bryant was selected KCAC Pitcher of the Year. First Team: Holland Boan (1B), Jonah Weisner (2B), Tyler Bryant (SP), Hector Sepulveda (SP), Creed Jeffers (RP). Second Team: Nicholas Sizemore (C), Connor Jeffers (LF), Stephen Norrell (SP). Gold Glove: Nicholas Sizemore (C) and Tyler Farnham (CF).

The Braves are 13-16 in the KCAC Tournament and are the defending tournament champions. OU defeated McPherson College 12-7 in the championship game last season to qualify for the program's first NAIA Opening Round. Ottawa is  0-3 vs. Bethany College, 2-2 vs. Kansas Wesleyan, 5-3 vs. Tabor College, 3-1 vs. Sterling College, 0-6 vs. University of Saint Mary, 1-1 vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and 1-0 vs. McPherson College in the KCAC Tournament.

Ottawa is 67-67 against Kansas Wesleyan and won the season series against the Coyotes 3-0 on April 1 and 2. OU won game one, 5-3 took game two, 2-0, and game three 2-1 at Alumni Park. The Braves are on a five game winning streak against KWU. Ottawa is 31-18 against McPherson College. The Bulldogs won the season series, 2-1 on March 26 and 27 in McPherson. MC won game one, 12-6, Ottawa rebounded to take game two, 11-3 and the Bulldogs won game three in 10 innings, 4-3.

Kansas Wesleyan is 30-27 overall and defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan in the KCAC Tournament 7-6 in its last win. In 57 games, KWU has scored 441 runs and has hit 92 home runs. The Coyotes have a .289 batting average, a .393 on base percentage, and a .418 slugging percentage. William Dryburgh leads KWU in batting average (.402), Dustin Sipe is the team's leader in RBI (61), Spencer Foley is the Coyotes leader in ERA (1.84), and Trent Dewyer leads the team in strike outs (96).

McPherson College has a record of 39-11. The Bulldogs lost its first game of the KCAC Tournament, 6-5, to Tabor College on Saturday but bounced back to defeat Friends University 8-5. Through 50 games, MC has scored 447 runs and hit 80 home runs. The Bulldogs have a .329 batting average, a .419 on base percentage. and a .554 slugging percentage. Caleb Feuerstake leads McPherson in batting average (.399), Trevor Johnson is the team's leader in RBI (67), Justin Sockey is the team's leader in ERA (1.71), and Blake Maddock and Alex Escobar leads the Bulldogs in strike outs with 87 apiece.
