Barton Community College: Shoemaker had 17 appearances on the pitcher's mound for the Cougars in 2014. He went 1-1 with one save. Shoemaker pitched in 19.1 innings, striking out 14.

High School: Shoemaker earned four letters in baseball and hockey for West Valley High School. He was a three-time All-Conference performer and a four-time Alaska State Tournament Player of the Game in baseball for the Wolfpack. Shoemaker was a two-time All-Tournament team selection at the Alaska State Baseball Tournament and at the Alaska Legion State Baseball Tournament. In 2010 he was part of the USA Selects U19 team. He helped lead the Wolfpack to four Alaska State Baseball Tournaments, finishing fourth in 2010 and third in 2011. On the ice, Shoemaker earned All-Conference honors and was twice named WVHS Most Inspirational Player. He helped lead WVHS to four Alaska State Hockey Tournaments, finishing fourth in 2010 and third in 2011.
